Mutley,

Any inside info on some of these players? I am happy that the rookie legspinner,
Saranga Rajaguru,  has been chosen to the pool despite not having any exposure from an outstation school (Nugawela Central) - I doubt this smells of any favouritism or nepotism. Strangely not one Thomian !! I had heard of the potential of Berenger (someone posted an item on Dilmah about a year back).

P.S. I saw your other post (Under 19 team to tour Australia) subsequently and find that Saranga Rajaguru is in the team. He must be someone with potential.

hashan j,

You are right. Banuka scored a brilliant  154 n.o  in 111 balls of a total of 254 and we won the match with  12 overs to spare. He seems to be the answer to our middle order woes - gosh 8  sixes and fourteen boundaries  Grin
Must be some hitter  Cheesy

Hi Omar
You can watch videos of Rajapakse batting at http://www.islandcricket.lk on page 33 of the video section. He's very strong down the ground.

Hi Mutley,

Thanks a lot !

Omar

Had a glimpse of Bhanuke's batting - he has a high backlift and favours mid-on. This is a sign of a good player. Powerful striker of the ball. Is he  a right hander who bats left ?- H reminds me of Jehann Mubarak.

Yep - checked it out. He bowls right arm fast medium. David Gower was one of them and Brian Lara, if I am not mistaken. So he is in good company  Grin

by watching this video, it seems that Bhanuka is a far bigger talented player than Kithruwan, those sixes played by Bhanuka seem to be proper cricket shots, not slogs,

Omar, what do you think after watching this video, i dont think we can compare Bhanuka with Mubarak, that will be a disaster for SL if one of the best youngster turn out to be Mubarak, after watching this video i see Yuvraj comparisons even more

hashan j,

Thanks. I saw that video.

God forbid that Bhanuka follows Mubarak Huh ! I made my earlier comment on certain common characteristics of right handers batting left handed and this is where I found some similarities in the styles of Bhanuka and Jehan. Yuvraj, though strong on the leg, is a pure left hander. I have not seen enough of Bhanuka to make a proper judgement. If he does show the same temperament  and can keep up his good form then he is the ideal player at 5 or 6 in the ODIS.

I also saw the video before his departure to Australia: the reporter asked him what he thought of the wickets and he said that he hoped it will be slow like in Sri Lanka. I'd like to see how Bhanuka copes with the short pitched stuff on fast wickets. This is where Aravinda showed his colours and I am keeping my fingers crossed to see whether Bhanuka will be able to follow in his footsteps. High time we unearthed a good talent. Cool

One must not forget Dinesh Chandimal who is just 2 years older to Bhanuka. My impression is that Chandimal is more a test player. Have you any videos of him?
